On July 26, 2019, Abako’s Executive Director, Dr. Lety Banks, and the Program Director for Mantra Social Services (Mantra4Change), Ms. Vasundhara met in Bangalore, India to explore potential areas of collaboration. As a result, on August 14th, 2019, an Agreement of Collaboration will be signed between the two NGOs that fuses values and aligns education priorities for underserved communities.
Abako’s Executive Director, Dr. Lety Banks volunteered as a teacher trainer in Bangalore, India working with teachers of English at the Sharada Shri Public School. The Principal, Mr. Kesari Shamachar, was most welcome and enthusiastic about his teachers having the opportunity to speak English all the time while at school. His exemplary participation in meetings and training sessions modeled progressive leadership behaviors, and we thank his full support in our endeavors.
It is our pleasure to announce that three of our Travel Grant awardees have completed their Doctorate in Education Management. Dr.Lety Banks, Executive Director of Abako, was chosen as the Godmother for the Graduating class 2019 at the Centro Universitario Villavicencio in Cuernavaca, Mexico. From Agra, India, Dr. Banks sent her heartfelt congratulations to be read at the ceremony. Abako Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the celebration of a great accomplishment and will continue to support these exceptional educators.
A Bold Move: Abako Foundation and the Yucatan Secretariat of Public Education Agree to Collaborate On May 31st, 2019, Abako’s Executive Director, Dr. Lety Banks, and the Secretary of Education of the State of Yucatan, Mexico, Prof. Loreto Villanueva Trujillo, signed an Agreement of Collaboration at the Offices of the Secretariat of Public Education in Merida, Yucatan. Effective immediately, this agreement will allow teachers from Basic Education schools—inicial, preescolar, primaria, secundaria, y bachillerato—to apply for an educational grant for specific academic projects to the Foundation.
For two weeks in May 2019, Abako’s Executive Director, Dr. Lety Banks, and Director, Dr. Anel May visited over 15 schools in the areas of Temozon, Tizimin and Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico. The purpose of the visits was manifold: First, to witness the progress of ongoing projects as in the case of Chan Cenote, Dzalbay, Ekbalam, Nahbalam, Popolnah, San Andres, and Tahcabo where mothers and teachers work together in initial education centers.
